Put the technique to use at our first workshop where we go over 8s and Accent Tap from the Battery Core Packet

Workshop #2

Expand on those stroke preparations and build up you diddles with 16th Accent and Double Beat

Faster diddles with drags and short roll combinations, and we get some new bass drum exercises! Drags and 5-Stroke Rolls, Tap Pyramid, and Laser Beam Primer

Snare-focused exercises: more drags, crazy diddles, and paradiddle rudiments! 16th Partial Timing, Triplet Diddles, Double Stroke Control, and Paradiddle Rudiments

Tenors... dun dun DUNNN!! Gain further dexterity across the drums with Scrapes 2, and Crossovers

It's time for t-t-t tttttuplets. Master triplets and 9s, and grab a buddy to start practice on the split bass drum exercises with Triplet Timing, 9s Development, Split 2s, 3s, and 4s

More tuplets with Quintuplet Development as well as nailing down those pesky flam rudiments. Developed with Triple Stroke Development, Flam 1, and Flam 2

Additional thoughts and rehearsal flow

This year's clinic workshops are meant to foster and promote an environment featuring a deeper appreciation for modern percussion performance. As such, I'd like to set aside some time at the beginning and end of each rehearsal to allow for short performances from some select volunteers, preparation permitting. So whether that's a lick you wrote yourself, an excerpt from a personal solo, or a different source of music that inspires you, start looking for examples to share with the rest of the battery percussion section at OSHS!
