2024-25 Band Class Lists
A note from Mr. Coughlin and some explanation of the lists…
It is is always challenging for me to make decisions that might potentially disappoint or upset any students…it is certainly not a reason I got into teaching. There are many pieces to the puzzle in making these decisions and I am always willing to talk to students about their placement and give them feedback on their audition. There will be emotions involved whether you got the placement you wanted or not…I just ask that you wait to let the initial emotional reaction settle down before you talk to me. Part of life is learning how to deal with being selected for things and not being selected for others…jobs, teams, promotions, etc. Nothing on any of these lists is set in concrete. I reserve the right to make changes to any of these lists at any time. Part of that is to account for legitimate mistakes I made in typing them, and part of that is to give students the incentive to work towards convincing me I made the correct decision or that I should reconsider.
There will be some potential openings in Wind Ensemble and the Jazz classes. These were not filled at this time because there was either a lack of auditions or I did not feel the auditions submitted were strong enough to indicate that students were prepared to be successful with the level of literature that group performs. Students interested in those positions should contact Mr. Coughlin to find out what they need to do to improve or demonstrate they are up the challenge of the music. Those openings are indicated with a [Open] under the instrument name.
Thanks - Mr. Coughlin

Explanation of the lists…
We may have some additional students who were selected to Wind Ensemble and will choose to take two hours of band during second semester…usually juniors or seniors. Those students should contact Mr. Coughlin and request to be added to the list.
- All students listed in Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band 1st Semester are also in Marching Band. They will be enrolled in PA510 Marching Band for first semester and then divide into those two groups after marching season is done at the end of October.
- There are some students in grades 10-12 that are not being placed in Marching Band by choice or by selection. Those students are in PA500 Concert Band for first semester, but typically move to PA515 Symphonic Band for second semester. This is the reason for 1st and 2nd semester lists for those two groups.
- Everyone will be on two class lists turned in to the counselors’ office…a first semester band class and a second semester band class. It will be one of the following combinations:
- PA500A Concert Band (1st sem) – PA500B Concert Band (2nd sem)
- PA500A Concert Band (1st sem) – PA515B Symphonic Band (2nd sem)
- PA510A Marching Band (1st sem) – PA515B Symphonic Band (2nd sem)
- PA510A Marching Band (1st sem) – PA520B Wind Ensemble (2nd sem)
